history

The story of Bodhi's Bakehouse begins in 1981, when two Fremantle locals, Alana & Lyn, decided to bake bread for friends and acquaintances. They took the name "Bodhi's" from the Sanskrit language - meaning teacher & provider of good things.

In 1986 they sold the business to the present owners - John & Jane Noonan, who brought with them many years of bread making experience (John is a 3rd generation family baker) and a total commitment to the further development of the bread makers craft. In particular they wanted to move away from wheat breads & revive traditional bread raising techniques such as sourdough.

This immediately brought rewards, & by 1991, Bodhi's had expanded from 10 to more than 40 gourmet & dietary loaves, all of which are hand crafted.

Located in Ellen Street, with a staff of 25, the last 10 years has seen Bodhi's venturing into several new areas, including production of gluten free breads & cookies, a range of breads made with Organically grown grains, & the development of breads made from ancient grains such as Spelt & Kamut. Bodhi's is a member of the Organic Growers Association.

As West Australia's premier specialist traditional bakery, Bodhi's has continued to grow as the communities interest in natural & healthy foods has grown, whilst maintaining their commitment to providing their customers with the highest quality, purest, most traditional breads.
